Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are usually used on uPVC doors, but they can be utilized on other types of doors. They work by using a key to unlock a cylinder case that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned to those in the lock body and allowing them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro cylinders are available with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.

The selection of a cylinder is vital. It is based on the amount of use your doors and handles receive. Doors that are external, for instance, should be fitted with higher security cylinders while internal doors can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. In addition, some cylinders come with additional features that increase security even more, like anti-drill or anti-bump features.

A euro cylinder should be measured accurately to ensure it's the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in its position, you can remove it. It is crucial to ensure that there is no cylindrical lock that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

The majority of modern cylinders have been designed with bump and anti-drill features included in their design. They are designed to decrease the chances of an attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This helps prevent attacks and ensure your doors are secure.

Some cylinders are designed to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A special tool is used to break the break line of the lock and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is a quicker and simpler method to gain access than through a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the break-in which could delay insurance claims.


Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits inside the base of the door handle backplate, providing a spring solution that returns the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after using. There was a time when handles of this kind did not have a spring integrated into them, and without it they are more likely to slide or  drop once the locking mechanism is disengaged. This component is the best solution to address this issue. It also prevents your upvc door from becoming stuck in either the open or closed position as they are difficult to close manually.

The spring cassettes were made to be used with a sprung multipoint locks. They will not fit handles that aren't sprung and you'll have to cut a hole in your backplate for them to fit.
